“Did you know that if I’m not desexed, I can breed from as early as 4.5 months old and my offspring and I could produce up to 5,000 cats in just seven years? No wonder shelters and pounds are at capacity!”
RSPCA Victoria is calling for the introduction of mandatory desexing of dogs and cats. Tens of thousands of unwanted and lost animals are admitted to animal shelters across Victoria each year, costing the community millions of dollars and significantly impacting animal welfare and contributing to high rates of euthanasia. Mandatory desexing is an effective strategy to reduce unplanned pregnancies, roaming animals, and dog attacks.
