Reunite registered lost pets with their owners directly

“Did you know that if I went missing and someone took me to a vet clinic, the vet can’t legally contact my owner to come and get me, even though I’m registered and microchipped? If I was lost, I’d want to be reunited with my owner right away!”

RSPCA Victoria is calling for registered lost pets to be reunited directly with their owners. Under the Domestic Animals Act 1994 (DAA) veterinary practices and animal shelters cannot lawfully reunite lost pets with their owners unless they have established an 84Y agreement with the local council. Amending the Act to allow this would give piece of mind to pet owners, improve animal welfare, reduce the load on pounds and decrease costs to local government.
